Richwood, OH, July 25, 2018 - TCI of Ohio* recently held an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony for its new transformer recycling business in Richwood, Ohio.  The facility will be used to service the company’s continued growth in the Midwest region providing customers with a safe and reliable recycling option for their obsolete oil filled transformers and other electrical equipment.

The expansion into Ohio was driven by strong growth in the Southeast and Midwest markets that were being served by TCI of Alabama.  Senior management in Alabama determined more capacity was needed and chose Central Ohio for the new plant.  Frank Jackson a senior manager at TCI Alabama was tapped to be president of the new facility.

“We visited a number of sites and found Union County and Central Ohio to be a perfect location for our business,” said Frank Jackson.  “We received strong support from state and local leaders.  There are excellent schools in the area.  Columbus 2020 and Union County Economic Development were great partners throughout the process.  This is a business-friendly region with a high standard of living for our employees.”

Mr. Jackson will be joined by Wade Leichner who was named Plant Manager.  Mr. Leichner brings years of manufacturing and plant management experience in the chemicals and motor vehicle industries.  TCI is gearing up to handle 2,000 tons of transformers and related oil-filled electrical equipment, and approximately one million gallons of oil per year.  The state of the art plant and management expertise from TCI of Alabama will ensure the proper handling and disposal of EPA regulated items.

“We are excited to be up and running,” said Mr. Jackson.  “This venture provides the Midwest with a strong day to day operation.  Our customers are from a vast array of industries, utilities, cooperatives, colleges, hospitals and government institutions.  This new plant will help us better serve this growing market.  In doing so the company is committed to environmental excellence.”

"TCI of Ohio is a first-class plant that will adhere to the highest standards," said Wade Leichner, Plant Manager.  “The plant will employ industry leading best practices to ensure safety, environmental stewardship and customer service.  As a family-owned business, TCI of Ohio is committed to operating in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.”

TCI of Ohio will fill 50 managerial, administrative and labor jobs with excellent pay and benefits.  The economic activity metric, which assesses the job creation, income, and output, generated at the plant is estimated at $2 million annually.  This includes salaries and benefits to employees, state and local tax impact and spending on local suppliers and services.  The company offers potential for professional growth placing a high importance on core values like integrity and honesty.

“All businesses are relationship businesses,” said Frank Jackson.  “We treat our customers, employees, suppliers and partners with respect.  We strive to give back to the communities in which we operate through charitable giving and volunteerism.  This is part of our core values we take very seriously.”

Richwood Village Mayor Wm. Scott Jerew said, “It’s been a pleasure working with Frank Jackson and the TCI team to bring a strong and growing national company to Richwood. This is a company that is both environmentally sound and adding good jobs to the local economy – a combination that can’t be beat.”

Kenny McDonald, President and CEO of Columbus 2020, said, “Innovative businesses like TCI of Ohio are important to our economic health and have led to the Columbus Region’s reputation as a great place to do business. We congratulate them and Union County on their growth in our region.”  TCI of Ohio is one of hundreds of companies that have expanded in the Columbus Region since 2010, leading to a positive economic impact across Central Ohio.

Eric S. Phillips, Union County Economic Development Director, said, “Union County is excited about TCI’s commitment to locate a new facility in Richwood.  TCI’s state of the art facility will not only provide services to electrical companies, it will provide good paying jobs and benefits to the village and to the county.  The management team at TCI recognizes the value of our geographic location, extensive transportation network and skilled workforce to service their growing Midwest customer base.”
